February Randomness

6 Random Things

1. Its Valentines week! Jake and I never really do much for Valentines Day because its so close to both of our birthdays. We usually cook dinner for one another and try to do a creative/crafty gift instead of something expensive. The plan this year is for Jake to make me dinner. I got him a little gift. I know its cheating our rule, but he will love it and it will make my life easier too. :)

If I were to get some presents for this fun little holiday they would be, in no particular order:

2. Super Bowl weekend was tons of fun! We went to our friends, The Olsens, house where Amber made her traditional spread. They order a 4 foot burrito every year and she went to town with all the proper junk food. Homemade nachos, lemony desserts, cupcakes, veggie trays, and lots of booze! There were about 20 of us and we had such a great time making crazy bets on obscure parts of the game. Carrie Underwood will forever be known as Carries Overwood because she carried the national anthem to over 1 minute 42 seconds!

3. I've had my share of celebrity sightings this week. Alexis from the Real Housewives of Orange County showed up at our Shreadmill class this past Tuesday. She was very beautiful and fit in person, but she wore a LOT of perfume and complained a little too much for my liking.
I also attended a USC Alumni Leadership Summit on Thursday afternoon with one of my co-workers. The chairman had us do an ice-breaker where he asked each of us to pull out 2 business cards, exchange them with 2 other people sitting around us, and tell them our name, our job and what kind of car we drive. I just knew my car question answer would probably be the most unique, seeing as how I drive a Ford Focus and the parking lot was full of Mercedes and Beamers. Anyway, my first exchange was with a woman next to me who works in operations management for Pacific Sunwear, although it didnt say Pacific Sunwear anywhere on her business card. Strange. My next exchange was this guy named Kam. He is a financial advisor, I think. I wasnt really listening, I just knew the car question was coming up next. I proudly said, "Well I work at PAAMCO and I drive a Ford Focus. So there." (ok not the last part) He looks at me and says, "Range Rover." I say, "Let's trade!"haha.
Then this lady comes and sits next to me and my co-worker. I think she was late, so we told her about the business card exchange. She handed us her card with her heavily jeweled hand and says, "I'm Cookie Lee." Wait a minute, THE Cookie Lee? "Well, yes." Gushing, gushing, gushing. I stupidly tell her my mom used to sell Cookie Lee and I just love her jewelry. She says yeah, yeah, what do you do? I wanted to say never mind what I do, I want to talk about YOU. Now, the chairman is trying to call order and all I can think about is how I want to power lunch with this woman in hopes that her awesome business savvy will rub off on me somehow. So in REAL reality, Cookie Lee, the famous (or not so famous) jeweler was my BIG celebrity sighting of the week and Alexis gets a big fat snore.

4. Sending positive thoughts to a good friend who is going through a lot of change right now. Actually, a lot of my friends have gone through big changes this week. Friends moving in together, couples moving in together, babies being born, funerals, career changes. The whole list has happened this week, not the least of which......
FRANK was accepted to EMORY for the MBA program!!!!!!
We are beyond estatic! He was accepted as one of about 375 and he got a half scholarhsip. Im so so proud of him, (and Christi and I for writing one of his essays). This means we are possibly moving to Atlanta and will be away from home for 2 years. OMG. The changes are endless.
5. As I said above, there was a funeral this week. One of Jake's close family friends lost her husband to an endless battle with alcoholism. This man seemed so loved and the life of the party and even though I'd only met him once or twice, his funeral gathering was very touching. His wife was so in love with him. She knew all of his favorite things and how he would have wanted things handled. I was in awe of her. She seemed strong even though I knew she had to be hurting so so bad inside. I hope her healing process is easy. She is a good woman. The whole situation just makes me want to hug my loved ones even tighter.
6. I'm blogging while waiting for our carpet cleaner to finish up. The guy seems nice, just not the fastest person in the world. I'm sequestered to my kitchen counter with all of our living room furniture surrounding me. It is quite the sight.

That's all for now. Happy Valentines Day!
