This weekend was eventful and relaxing at the same time with most of it focused around our SC Trojans beating the Oregan State Beavers at the Coli (as Pete Carroll affectionately calls it :) :)
Friday night Jake worked on his grad school applications while I started cooking some food for our tailgate. We went out for dessert at the Melting Pot a little later on (so yummy!) and enjoyed a quiet night together.
Saturday morning we woke bright and early to leave for LA. We tailgated all day and were thankful our Angels would not be playing at the same time as the Trojans due to rain in New York! We ate some frittata for breakfast, and chicken tacos with fresh quacamole for lunch! Yummy! It was an exhausting day for sure, but we made it home safe and sound by 10pm which meant a solid 14 hour day of football!
Sunday was a lazy day and much needed. We took Jake's little buddy Gilbert to see the movie Where the Wild Things Are. Jake was so super excited for this movie because it was one of his favorite books growing up. The book honestly used to freak me out because of all the weird monsters. I think the movie would have done the same so I'm thankful it was just now made into a movie. It was rated PG but I would not recommend bringing kids to see it. Anyway, I think Gilbert had a good time so that's all that is important.
We were lazy most of the rest of the day and Jake practiced for his big University of Texas interview this week. I had to act like I was interviewing him and it was funny listening to all of his responses because I know him way too well and knew every answer before he said it! I was joking with him that my answers for his questions were way better :) Later on we went over to Mudd/Cairney/Vidal's to watch the Angels lose and get knocked out of the World Series. Not cool! Better luck next year Halos!
This week will be very busy as we get ready for Halloween! Cant wait! Have a good week everyone!

Dishonesty
Dishonest people drive me nuts! I have had two situations in the past month or so that have made me realize that there are some very dishonest and mean people in this world. I guess I always give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to most situations. I think about what I would do under the circumstances and just assume most level-headed people would do the same. WRONG!
So the first instance has to do with ebay. I actually really dont like using ebay because all of the strangers on there freak me out. I had this brilliant idea that I could sell my old iphone and pay for a new one with the profit. Long story short, I got scammed by a dishonest person who sent a fake email leading me to believe they sent me the money. I had to deal with a huge headached of getting the package turned around and shipped back to me. At first I was just mad and then I thought, why do people think this is OK? How can you live your life by cheating others? I just cant even comprehend how these people sleep at night.
Fast forward to this past Monday night. I had just gotten into my car in my company's parking garage after work when I heard a big CRUNCH behind me. I look back and some lady in a giant monster truck slammed into one of my co-workers cars. I sort of panicked because it looked like the lady was trying to leave without leaving a note. I quickly whipped out my newly-purchased iphone and punched in the lady's license plate number in case she got away. At that moment, my co-worker came around the corner and I pointed and blurted out "THEY HIT YOU!" He was not pleased. After confirming everything was ok, I left and went home. The next day I learned that the lady is not insured and her boyfriend owns the car. They are claiming the damage was already there and it wasn't her fault. Excuse me? First off, you endanger yourself and others by driving without insurance and now you are going to flat out lie and basically call me a liar for telling the insurance adjuster what I saw? Absolutely ridiculous.
Sometimes I go to an event like a Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 5k or a Jaycee meeting and I am genuinely impressed with people. I think to myself, wow, some people have such passion and great ideas and I'm glad I can learn from them. But then situations like these happen and it makes me angry to think that there are a small minority that ruin it for the rest of us honest hard-working people. I pay my car insurance (well actually my mom), and I dont like it. But you have to, its part of life. I have bought many things online via stubhub or ticket exchanges and I never once was out to scam or defraud anyone. Who do these people think they are?
These situations also make me feel fortunate that I surround myself with honest and positive people. I am lucky to be able to have moments of complete astonishment as friends, family and even acquaintances succeed each in their own way. It is just sad that this is not the reality for some. And these select few seem to have a way with handling situations that can mask the good in others. Honesty is a virtue.

Monday Musings
Helllllooooo!
Im having a very productive Monday so far! Had a nice relaxing weekend at home and our Angels sweeped Boston to move on to the ALCS! So proud!
Just wanted to take a moment to send some positive vibes to a few important people in my life. My grandpa Vince is recovering from a stroke he suffered last Sunday. I was able to visit him in the hospital last week and all seems to be fine. Apparently, his heart and high blood pressure medication dosages were out of whack and it caused his heart to stop. Scary stuff, but he seems to be in good spirits. Speedy recovery grandpa!
Jake's mom is undergoing a procedure this morning that I hope goes really well for her since she's had a series of medical problems with her kidneys lately. I was able to talk with her last night and she just wants all of this to be over with! I cant blame her and I hope everything goes well so she will be back to normal soon! And finally, my friend Yassi (whose sister was my roommate at USC) is having her baby on Thursday!! I'm so excited for her and I cant wait to meet baby Noah! She will be induced this Thursday because the baby has a large head and she has a small pelvis....so they want to do a C-section. I hope everything goes well for all of these people I love dearly.
So, I've decided to do a detox diet this week because I have not been eating very well lately. I found the program on Gwenyth Paltrow's blog (www.goop.com). Her doctor formulated the menu for her awhile back and I decided there was no better time than now to try it!
Today is Day 1 of the 7 day plan. I've had lemon water, tea, a smoothie and I'm about to have coconut water next. I hope this goes well and I can exhibit some willpower to get through it without cheating. It will be hard but I'm up for the challenge! I'll post more about it in the coming days.
Thats all for now! Have a happy Monday!

Weekend in San Francisco
Last weekend we headed up to San Francisco for the USC vs. Berkeley football game. We had a big group of friends who took the trip but only the Fergusons, Jake and I made it to the football game.
We arrived on Friday night and immediately went to Sushi Bistro, an amazing sushi restaurant owned by a friend we all went to high school with. The food is simply amazing. Dave's Legacy is seriously the best sushi I have ever had. After dinner, we were all feeling the sake and headed to our hotel in Union Square. After we checked in, we took cabs to the Marina (I think) and went to a bar there. We stayed until closing and headed back to Union Square where some of us went to bed and some of us went on a pizza rampage!
The next day was GAMEDAY! We woke up and immediately went the "swag room," as we affectionately call it, because USC normally sets up shop in a hotel ballroom for all of the road games where fans can buy merchandise and see who is selling/buying tickets. Graham and Christi still needed game tickets, but Jake and I had secured some from one of my co-workers earlier in the week. Christi found 2 available tickets with no problem, so we headed back to the room to get ready for the day. We had a somewhat smelly lunch at the Daily Grill across the street with the whole group before the 4 of us caught the BART up to Berkeley. We had to walk through Lovefest to get to the BART station and that was certainly an experience. Lets just call it Freakfest because thats what it really was.
Once in Berkeley we made our way to an awesome tailgate at Henry's, a local hotel that had converted its back parking lot into a giant Berkeley tailgate. It was so much fun and we met up with the Lyalls and Dane. We then headed up the hill to Cal's stadium. Our seats were amazing because we sat right next to the band. I freaking love our band and was so happy to be able to stand up and dance almost the whole game! Unfortunately we left the game at halftime because Jake wanted to get back to the city to go to dinner with our friends (again at Sushi Bistro but the other location). The BART was a cluster eff getting back, but we rushed back to our hotel room, changed and made it to dinner relatively timely. The rest of the night is kind of a blur, but I know we tried to go to a bar and then just ended up at our hotel bar.
Sunday morning we slept in, checked out of the hotel and headed to Fisherman's Wharf. Most of us had clam chowder on our minds, so we settled on a surf themed restaurant that served the chowder and a lot of other food. The boys mostly wanted to stay and watch the football games they had bet on and the girls wanted to explore. So us girls ate and then headed down the wharf for shopping and wine tasting. We met up with the boys, took a shot of Rumplmintz (our road game tradition) and went wine tasting again. Yep, 2 wine tastings in 1 day! After the wharf we picked up our luggage and ate at a restaurant near the hotel. Lastly, we headed back to the airport for some pre-flight beverages. Trust me, Jake needs them.
And thats about it. It was an awesome weekend and even better because the
Trojans won!

Trendy Thursdays
You know those days when you wear an outfit that is kind of an outside of the box chance that people will love it or hate it? Well that was my outfit today. The weather is getting cooler here(and by that I mean dropped 15 degrees to 75), so I sleepily decided to wear a pair of tights with a high waisted skirt this morning. The skirt is from Banana (one of my favs) and its high-waisted with pockets and is kind of full. I wish I had the picture, but the skirt sold out :( Then I tucked in a black tshirt and wore a black cardigan, black tights, and black pumps. Sounds ok right?
Well, I got dressed in my bathroom while Jake was asleep as I do every morning. Right when his alarm went off, I flicked on the lights and asked, "Does this look ok?" This is a normal occurence in our morning routine and Jake is almost always quick to answer, "Eh. Yeah you make it look good", or something equally as nice. (The trick is to get them really early before they have the energy for sarcasm). To this particular outfit, Jake studied it carefully and said, "The skirt kind of looks like a horseman's riding pants." Ok, so you like it? "Well, its ok. I mean if you're going for that look." Sick.
I happened to think it was ok, so I went out the door. When I got out of the car at work, I was kind of nervous to walk in for some reason. I immediately second-guessed my "outside the box outfit" and tried to remember if I had a spare pair of pants in my car. Nope. Time to face the music.
Now, one thing you have to understand is there are really conservative people at my work and all age ranges. Most people wear jeans on a daily basis, but I always get tired of that. Sometimes I think that others might think I put way too much effort into what I wear to work. But who doesnt like to look good and not be bored with their outfits? I also sometimes fear that my boss will come up to me and say my outfit is inappropriate. I dont know why, but I have that fear because he is very conservative and I work with almost all men. I know I dont wear anything revealing, but what if he just doesnt get my attempt at trendy outfits? Should I even dress trendy in an office setting? I just cant see myself getting to a point in my life where I dont care about what I wear or how I look. Now I just sound plain vain.
Anywho, within minutes of walking into the office, I had several comments about my outfit. Mostly about the tights and they were all positive. I just dont really like the attention at work in that way. Because I work with almost all men, I try to mostly just fit in and not draw attention to the fact that I am the only girl. So its weird when one of the guys says, "Oh are tights in season now?" "Hey Cheryl, cool tights" Ugh. So weird. So I tried to just avoid walking around today so I wouldnt feel so awkward. I took a class at the gym at lunch today and even one of the instructors made a comment about the tights and skirt. After my post-workout shower, I didnt even bother putting the tights back on. I was sick of them and probably will never wear them again.
So I guess tomorrow is jeans and a tshirt?
